Swatch – O.P.I. – Can’t Find My Czechbook – NL E75

I’m a total sucker for pale blue polish this spring. Can’t Find My Czechbook is from the O.P.I. Euro Centrale Collection and totally scratches that itch.

The formula is okay, you can see it streaks a bit – especially on my middle finger – you need to get the brush loaded just right, since it sets pretty fast. But since blues are always tricky to formulate, and pastels are usually streaky, I think it could have been a lot worse ! I’m sure top coat would have evened it out.

This is 3 coats, you can see the finish is pretty nice. A great, standard pastel blue for sunny days 🙂

O.P.I. – I Theodora You

I was totally lemming over this polish for a while. And it’s pretty nice !

The formula is pretty good, it doesn’t dry very fast but does have a glossy finish. However, it did streak a bit, which was especially noticeable on my super-white tips, so I did 3 1/2 coats to get this effect. Admittedly, I’m crap at applying gellies, I just coat them too thin so they don’t level too well. Anyway, I would recommend 2-3 thick coats on this instead of going with skinny layers.

Anyway, very happy with this one, it’s summery, girly and office friendly 🙂

O.P.I. – My Vampire is Buff – NL E82

Sorry to spam you with swatches this weekend – after the nail art challenge in April, I have a huge backlog to get through. Plus, I like having plain photos like this as a reference!

I grabbed My Vampire is Buff from O.P.I.‘s Euro Centrale 2013 collection. It was just about the only one in that collection that really inspired me, since a lot of the others are similar to the China Glaze Spring collection – which I can buy cheaper than O.P.I. – sorry, it comes down to that for me at the moment !

My Vampire is Buff is a pale neutral, perfect as a nail art base. I used three coats to get it opaque, though I can’t stand thick coats, so I think if you are a bit more generous with your nail polish, two would be enough. Formula was pretty good, and I just got minimal bubbling – because I didn’t let the first coat dry properly, I suspect! That’s pretty standard with creme polishes though!

Basically, a nice, plain, clean, opaque base, for neons, pastels and/or nail art 🙂

Illamasqua I’mPerfection – Mottle, Fragile and Scarce

Hi guys, I’ve got some quick swatches for you today, from the Illamasqua I’mperfection collection. These are designed to imitate wild birds’ eggs, and I couldn’t resist getting some for Easter !

The polishes are pretty pricey (about £15 / 20€ / $16) but I splashed out on 3 – Mottle (the greeney one), Fragile (the bluey one) and Scarce (the pinkey one). I’m mostly happy with these, but will I wear them outside the Easter period?

The first thing that underwhelmed me is the bottle. The brush is pretty average, but I hate the fact that, when firmly closed, it doesn’t line up. I can live with that in a cheap polish, but at this price, it’s a bit irritating…

Taping Nail Art with Essie – Spring 2013 – Madison Ave-Hue & Maximillian Strasse Her

I realise I have been doing way too much swatching and not enough nail art recently !

For the new Essie collection, though some of the colours are amazing, a lot are pretty similar to the China Glaze Avant Garden (though that was always going to happen, the CG collection is 12-strong !). But I did splash out on all of Avant Garden, and my card still hasn’t recovered, so I couldn’t justify getting all of the Essie Spring 2013 collection !

But, well, a girl can never have too many bright pinks or cool greys, right?!

So I went for Madison Ave-Hue – a process magenta* (get me, getting into colour theory), with some silver sparkles. The silvery-ness is distributed similarly to O.P.I.’s I Don’t Give a Rotterdam, although, obviously, the shades are pretty different ! It came out a little blue in my photo below

I also grabbed (and paid for) Maximillian Strasse Her, an icy cold grey cream. I was pretty impressed to find that this is about the only grey in eternity to actually dry the same colour as in the bottle !

That was a nice surprise, as, although i expect greys to dry a shade or two darker, I’m regularly a bit disappointed when it happens !

Swatches – Butter London Sweetie Shop (Spring 2013) Collection ! Cuppa/Kerfuffle/Fiver/Jasper/Fruit Machine/Molly-Coddled

I am so glad that I caved in and bought this collection! All of these colours are stunning and the formula is pretty great 🙂

We have 6 in the collection :

  • Cuppa – the colour of a – very creamy – cup of tea (I like mine a tad stronger, but okay…) – a pale neutral, neither warm nor cold
  • Kerfuffle – somewhere between a coral and apricot pastel
  • Fiver – a pale minty green. For this type of shade, For Audrey is the reference. Fiver is paler and creamier
  • Jasper – lemon pastel yellow; just right for Easter nail art if you ask me !
  • Fruit Machine – a baby pink – pastel of course
  • Molly-Coddled – the purple of the collection

I love how all of these shades are perfectly coordinated! Though the collection overall has a distinctly pink vibe to it, and I would have liked to see a baby blue in there, the shades are perfectly balanced together.

Application & results are pretty much the same for all of the six, so I’ll go for a global review on this one 🙂

Time for some photos (I think I’ve nearly cracked the secret of noise-free non-blurries now! Bear with me, but at least the colours are accurate here 😉
