#NOTD – Holo Duochrome Ruffian

I feel like it’s a long time since I did a Ruffian mani! But today I wanted something simple yet a little different 🙂

The base colour (picked out by my other half) is Butter London Queen Vic. It’s the first time I’d used this polish, glad to see it’s GREAT quality!

The Ruffian top is in Pixie Polish Memory Splice. That’s an awesome holographic duochrome, which shifts a pinkish copper to green in the bottle. In this mani, it has become very red-purple-blue. Just so mesmerising! Unfortunately Pixie isn’t selling polish any more, if I hear she starts again, I will let you all know, don’t worry.

Happy Friday! I bet a lot of those of you in the US (and maybe Canada) are starting your Christmas shopping today! If so, don’t forget I have a coupon code running 🙂

Pixie Polish – Linear Holographic Top Coat – Picture Heavy !

I ‘m so behind on my swatches right now ! I know that Pixie reads from time to time, so do know that I am so sorry ! I work in tourism and we just went through a really busy period, so my posts have been brief. But when I’m writing a review, I want to have time to do the product justice; so it’s going to be quieter until june, and I’ll make the most of it to have a good catching up session 🙂

I ordered Pixie’s Linear Holographic Top Coat way back in March with Memory Splice. Dispatch took a little while, because Pixie doesn’t keep a big stock of pre-made polish. But I don’t mind that, I like the idea of the polish being made on order, and good things come to those who wait!

The formula is fairly thin, but personally I much prefer that ! I’m not a fan of gloopy polish. This does, however, mean that the holographic particles have a tendancy to sink and settle. But they mix up again really easily, and I actually enjoy doing that, watching it all swirl around and glitter…

This post, like most holo swatches I do, is going to be a bit picture heavy, bear with me ! I tested the top coat over 3 different polishes – Butter London’s Tea with the Queen (my favourite neutral ever), and two different polishes by French brand UNE – one dusty brown/plum and one blue/grey. Each time I used two coats.

This is what it looks like under a mixture of natural and incandescent lighting (so, a typical indoors swatch) :

Pixie Polish – Memory Splice

Good morning!

I’ve not posted much recently because I’ve been preparing some gems for you 🙂 I’ll start a new giveaway tomorrow, and Julie has been kind enough to let me piggyback onto her April Challenge ! Plus, I have a whole collection from Northern Star to show you, a Liebster Award to accept & pass on (has it been 10 days since that happened already?!) aaaand a few other indie swatches coming up… April is gonna be busy, busy busy !

First of all I’d like to show you a Pixie Polish from the Muses Alchemy on Etsy.

This polish is called Memory Splice, I ordered it with a holographic top coat that I’ll show you a bit later (it deserves perfect photos !). Pixie also surprised me with a beautiful nail polish ring – I am definitely going to be ordering some more, I love having jewellery that matches my manis !

A bit of serious stuff here (this is already in Pixie’s profile), Pixie suffers from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and 25% of Pixie Polish proceeds go to JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Association and other causes  – so you can feel good about buying them ! The bottles are recycled (after being autoclaved), and you can get some really unique combinations from this shop, because Pixie studied light sceince, technology, cosmetic chemistry, minerals and pigments… Pretty high brow !

I think I’ve made you wait long enough for the photos, so let’s get down to business. Memory Splice is seriously holographic, here’s what it looks like in the bottle under natural and incandescent light :
