GOT Polish Challenge – Valentines

It’s nearly Valentines Day! And, even better than that, it’s nearly Friday 😀

So this afternoon at the office I got a bunch of roses! It was a lovely surprise. We don’t usually celebrate Valentines day, so I wasn’t expecting it at all. And, even better, because my bloke knows that the flower delivery is usually in the afternoon, he got it sent a day early, so I can make the most of it, in case it wilts over the weekend! Plus, they smell delicious 🙂

Today’s theme for the GOT Polish Challenge is Valentines.

Swatch – Model’s Own – Pinky Brown Beetle Juice

Well yesterday I posted an O.P.I. swatch. Right after, I went overboard with some Konad stamps and glitter varnish, and I’m afraid to say that I made a horrible mess. Note to self – some of those patterns just aren’t big enough to cover a whole nail. So don’t bother!

Add to that a gloopy topcoat that bubbled up and I was ashamed to go to work with such a mess on my digits! So as soon as I could this evening, that lot had to come off and I thought I’d go for another swatch tonight.

I got a three set of Model’s Own (Beetlejuice Collection) in the sales, and am in love with all of them. As we are watching True Blood tonight, I decided to start with Pinky Brown Beetlejuice. In the bottle, it is a deep rust-to-dried-blood colour with a fine glitter texture.

Here’s a close shot of the first coat, a first application is quite transparent, but thanks to the glitter finish, it isn’t too obvious :

It is quite opaque after a second coat, but I went for a third to get it totally opaque.

It dries pretty fast (faster than some quick-dry varnishes that I’ve tried!), so you need to shake the bottle well to avoid lumps, but the texture is great for application. The glitter is really fine, so you don’t have the impression of having sandpaper nails, either!

Here’s a true to colour swatch, though my hand is orange! This is three coats, before topcoat :

A wet-look topcoat heightens that gorgeous shine.

The varnish is a transparent black liquid with fine coppery-red glitter in it. In sunlight, the varnish has a gold-green sheen, and in the shade, it is a more dark red colour.

For this inexpensive range, application was great, drying tine was perfect and I love the look, it is a more luminous version of China Glaze’s Lubu Heels, maybe not the best summer colour, but great for the winter party season, and in my opinion, the glitter is discreet enough for the office, too.

As I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to nail varnish, I’m sorely tempted to get a second bottle before the sale is over!
