OMD Rather Awesome Challenge – 7.Holo

I’m incredibly lucky that Black Sheep Lacquer recently sent me some beautiful nail polish to swatch. As far as I’m aware, this shade is not named yet and not listed either [edit : Margarita Monster can now be purchased here], but it is just so stunning I couldn’t resist showcasing it for holo day 🙂

It’s a super smooth gelly, a little sheer, but it dries so fast, it’s not a big deal to have to layer a bit! Here’s a swatch :

No top coat here – it is sooo shiny. And just because, honestly, I don’t even know how this polish could be improved upon by nail art, I kept it very very simple :

Here’s the Inlinkz for today, do click on it to see everyone’s entry 🙂

Essie – Bottle Service, DJ Play That Song & Bouncer, It’s Me *picture heavy*

Happy Monday !

I hope everyone’s got a nice week ahead of them. Where I work, things are really amping up; but I’m also working on a couple of side projects that you’ll hear about very soon on this blog 🙂

I saw these beautiful polishes at the supermarket local to work and could not resist! Beautiful, bright neon cremes.

First up, Bottle Service. A hot pink. Of course, being a neon, it’s translucent. This is how it looks with no undies (wooo!) :

I love the semi-matte finish of these neons 🙂

The formula for Bottle Service is very very thin ! I actually prefer thin, personally. But to see so little coverage at 3 coats was still a bit of a bummer. Still, it dries very quickly and doesn’t streak.

O.P.I. – Suzi’s Hungary Again ! – NL E73

Wow, this polish is pink ! Like, hot pink with barbies melted into it, but neon, and really, really pink! Totally love this colour !

Application was okay. I went for a clear base coat, and this is 3 coats but you can clearly see my smile line. So I should have worn a white base polish !

It dries with a semi-matte finish, as neons often do, and it is a fast drier. Can totally see myself rocking hot pink tips this summer 🙂

Guest post from the Polish Alcoholic

I was being totally cheeky when I asked Sabrina to do a guest post for me, but she actually did!! I mean, as far as I’m concerned, she rates up there with (another Sabrina) Sakura Nail Art, Craftynail or Eeek. I mean, that’s like if Dave Grohl dedicated a song to me – though Sabrina is probably not as hairy. So please enjoy and try not to swoon over her pictures 😉

Hi polished people!

I’m Sabrina a.k.a Polish Alcoholic with a guest post for the sweet Brijit. I’m so honored that she’s willing to dedicate a little space to me on her lovely blog 🙂

I created a neon watercolor manicure for you girls with a little tutorial. For this manicure you don’t need aquarel paint on whatsoever. Just pick four of your favorite (neon) polishes, a tiny cup with nail polish remover or acetone and soft medium nail art brush 🙂

I must say I had a hard time with taking proper pictures for the tutorial. I think neon colors are very hard to photograph or they just don’t want to be photographed. So please bear with me. I did the best I can to explain how I created this look. If there’s anything that’s not clear, please let me know 😉

What you’ll need:

neon watercolor products

  • medium nail art brush
  • matte top coat
  • small cup with nail polish remover
  • Zoya Purity
  • Nfu Oh FS12
  • Nfu Oh FS24
  • Nfu Oh FS19
  • Nfu Oh FS01

How to:
1. Start with a white base plus a (thick layer of) top coat and let it dry completely.
2. Add one or two splotches of your first color.
3. Dip your nail art brush in the nail polish remover (or acetone) and gently dab it over the splotches of polish so that it spreads to a watercolor look.
4. Repeat step 2 and 3 with the second color.
5. Repeat step 2 and 3 with the third color. It’s fun to let the colors blend into each other by placing them slightly on top of the others.
6. Repeat step 2 and 3 with the last color and let the design dry. Add a matte top coat and you’re ready to go.

I hope you enjoyed this mani and I’d love to see your creations!
A big thanks to Brijit for doing this. *mwah mwah* 🙂

April Challenge – Day 22 – Neon

I hope your week has started well ! My shoulder pain is calming down, I’m still moving around like an old lady, but it’s a lot better than it was yesterday, so I even dare hope to be back to normal tomorrow !

I work right by a Lancel shop in Paris and they have a bag in their spring range that I am totally in love with – click the link here to see it. I could totally never afford it, and even if I could, well, I would really do something better with that money instead of buy a bag. So I’ll never own it, but if any of you ladies spot an imitation of this bag (even a bad one – actually, a bad one is less likely to get stolen!) please please let me know – I will love you forever !Especially if it’s not in real leather…

So, back to nails !

I don’t have many neon polishes – I count 3 exactly – so this was a struggle for me! I grabbed China Glaze’s Japanese Koi and did some fish scales. Not the best, but it could have been worse 🙂

Which neons would you recommend for my stash, girls? Should I wait for the Neons on the Shore collection from China Glaze, or are there already some great ones out there?
