Color Club – Put a Pin in it

So  Eeek-ee-Pops isn’t the only one on a swatching kick !

Actually, I’m not on swatches to save the nail art for the challenge, rather, I’m trying to clear out my to-be-swatched box before the challenge – last time I did a month challenge, it overflowed (overflew?) 🙂

Also, I just received the new piCture pOlish brushes today, so I’ll be going back over those swatches soon – the brushes look just right to me !

For now, I have another sample-sized Color Club to show you, Put a Pin in It – this one was a collaboration with Joliebox (I think) a while ago. It’s been in my swatch box for a while, which I totally regret, because I love it !

FrankenPolish Friday – Metallic Khaki

Good evening ! It’s very nearly Saturday here, but I’d like to share with you my very first FrankenPolish !

I mixed this polish a while ago. I really liked the idea of having a creamy, slightly metallic khaki colour for my nails but I couldn’t find one I was happy with. I wanted something light and luminous, and I’m pretty pleased with the result. I made it with the odds and ends of a darker khaki, a white creme, pigments and a clear top coat. It’s been sitting around in my polish drawer for a while, and although it’s thickened a bit – not surprising, given it’s made from old polish and dry pigment – it’s in pretty good nick, and levelled out in a couple of coats 🙂

What do you think? Have you tried FrankenPolishing before?

Today is gradient day ! I love a good gradient, so I had fun with this one ! Since spring is coming round, I went for corals – both EssieTart Deco is the paler of the two, Meet Me At Sunset is the deeper orangey coral. I also tried a cool new technique (okay, it went up 2 years ago, but it’s new to me !) that I discovered through Tartofraises – I used a fan brush to gradient, instead of a sponge – it’s so much neater ! Tartofraise’s video is here. She uses acrylic paint, but I used nail polish and that worked fine 🙂

As sad as I’ll be when this challenge is over, I think my ‘to swatch’ box could do with being looked after  !

April Challenge – Day 25 – Metallic

Well, I totally over-thought this one and ruined it 🙂 I got myself some nice new stamping plates and wanted to test them out (metallic polishes are great for stamping), but I found it really hard to stamp right up to my cuticles (my stamper isn’t very soft). So this is the best I came up with 🙂

Can’t win ’em all ! The next two I’ve got coming up are much better, so I can take this fail 🙂

April Challenge – Day 23 – Caviar

The shoulder’s finally feeling better, yay !

Double-yay, I have a really special mid-week guest post for you! Sabrina from the Polish Alcoholic wrote one for me. It’ll go up tomorrow, and I can’t tell you how excited I am about that. Since I have been nail blogging, I have been reading more and more other nail blogs, and I have a lot of respect for a lot of nail bloggers. But when it comes to Sabrina’s site, it goes beyond that, I turn into a proper fan girl. So please check it out tomorrow 🙂

Today’s mani for the challenge is caviar nails. I love caviar manis! For this one I mixed up some purple & pink beads and paired it with a metallic polish for contrast. I went for a half-moon motif, because that’s just about the only mani style I could think of that isn’t already on the challenge list !

And I think it looked pretty great 🙂

April Challenge – Day 20 – Border Mani

Hello again! So it’s day 20 of the challenge already… How did that happen? We have done 2/3 already!

I actually did this mani 3 times before it felt good enough to show you… In the end, I settled for a metallic dot border mani. It looks okay, but I’m not sure that it’s very flattering to my nail shape. Still, challenges are all about trying something new!

The base colour is Nails Inc Special Effects in Stratford – a pinky-gold that started off sheer but was opaque at the second coat! I do love pinky-goldiness for spring, it matches my pretty pinky spring coat that has a pinky-gold zipper and buttons. Have I said ‘pinky’ enough?

It’s pinky, It’s pinky and the brain brain brain brain, brain brain brain brain, …
