Here’s my second Tuesday Tutorial for you, for the mani I did with Zoya – Dove last week.
First up, a collage for anyone in a rush (or with a huge screen!)
You will need :
- 2 nail polish – I used Zoya Dove and China Glaze For Audrey
- 1 foil + glue – or a third polish colour, if you don’t have foils – I recommend a metallic
- striping tape, or another tape – some people use normal sticky tape without any issues
- top coat – well, you can’t do nail art without a top coat!
For my full swatch post of Zoya Dove, click here. I wasn’t so impressed with the formula, but it is a great base colour for nail art!
IMHO this is by far the best way of cutting lots of little bits of striping tape! Just tape it across your fingers and cut through. Of course, be careful not to cut into your hand ! You need 20 pieces per hand.
I portioned off less than a quarter for this look. I think on shorter nails, you can place the centre of the cross about half way down the nail, it should look fine !
This bit is a little more fiddly. If you swear, don’t forget to put a pound (or Euro, or dollar) in the jar… It’s worth taking the time to get it right, though! Do aim to get them totally horizontal if you can. Some of mine were angled a bit towards the tip, my nails were very sharply curved that day and I couldn’t avoid it.
If you don’t have foils and glue, go ahead and paint the triangles in with your third nail polish colour.
Now you just have the first set of tape left. Don’t worry if you have made a bit of a mess on your cuticles, the normal clean up will look after that !
In retrospect, I could have used a more contrasting colour. But I like the soft look of these two together, so never mind 🙂
Yep, I already talked about the striping tape thing. If you get good results letting the polish dry first, do go ahead. I’m only showing you how I did it 🙂
The advantage of foils is that they won’t drag when you top coat them, but they might go crackly, especially if you use a fast dry. With the triangles positioned at the tip, drag should be minimal anyway, but you may as well let it dry anyway… Don’t risk ruining your hard work !
Yep. I’ll flag this post pic-heavy, huh !
